Andrew Yang: An American Leading by Example

Andrew Yang

It’s 2019 and things have changed considerably over the years. Not too long ago comedians were allowed to make jokes without the fear of losing their job or better yet their career. However, that was a different time and now if you are a white male cracking racial jokes you better be prepared to defend yourself or at least have a great American like Andrew Yang in your corner.

In May of this year, on a separate appearance on the Real Ass Podcast, comedian Shane Gillis called Yang a “Jew Chink.”

Gillis, who was recently added to the new list of comedians hired on SNL, was immediately called back to their NBC Studios where he was eventually fired.

Saturday Night Live on Monday announced that it will no longer bring Shane Gillis aboard as a new cast member for its 45th season.

“After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL. We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as a comedian and his impressive audition for SNL,” the NBC show said in a statement.

“We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”

Andrew Yang had every reason to be upset over these remarks. Here is a white comic trashing a minority using racial slurs. If Gillis had done this to a different presidential nominee, like Kamala Harris, Black Lives Matter would want more than the termination of his employment, they would want Gillis and his family to move out of the States and hang their head in shame for the rest of eternity.

However, Gillis didn’t attack an African American. He attacked an Asian American, Andrew Yang, who handled it with such grace, it makes anyone taking notice have no choice but to admire him. Blacks and other minorities should take notice.

And in response to Gillis’ terrible taste for words, Mr. Yang has preached forgiveness.

“Shane — I prefer comedy that makes people think and doesn’t take cheap shots. But I’m happy to sit down and talk with you if you’d like,” he said in a tweet over the weekend. “For the record, I do not think he should lose his job. We would benefit from being more forgiving rather than punitive. We are all human.”

Now, this is a presidential candidate we should all get behind who’s not named Donald Trump!
